The spring charter train season of Jokioinen Museum Railway has been canceled due to the prevailing coronavirus situation! In addition, the starting date of the summer operation season is currently unclear and summer events or schedules cannot be confirmed at this stage.

The Museum Railway Association closely follows the development of the situation and the instructions given by the authorities, and we will inform about the start of the operation season as soon as it is possible.
This situation has come as a surprise to all of us and its financial implications are also significant. Canceled charter trains and the lost train ticket revenues will have a radical impact on the association's finances.
We apologize for the situation and at the same time thank you for all the moral and financial support we have received!

Like before, our Christmas card has been drawn by one of our steam locomotive drivers Mr PTJ Koskinen. In addition to celebrating Christmas and the New Year, the card celebrates Humppila's new station building, which was still a year ago in Riipa in Ostrobothnia. Now in Christmas 2019 the station building has been renovated and a "Humppila" station sign. is on the wall. An old "Riippa" station sign can also be found in the picture!
Santa is sending a sled pulled by Peter and operated by one of his elves from Humppila towards Minkiö, Jokioinen and all the nice kids. The elves are having trouble getting Petter's going, though. Humppila's yard is on a hill and there is a steep climb to test Peter's traction!
Santa has Christmas presents in the sleigh and looks like there are new water tanks for Sohvi, the HKR 5 steam locomotive, and for Tubize, the steam locomotive JR 4, and new traction boogies for TU4 diesel locomotive. Let's earnestly hope that Santa brings those gifts to Minkiö, or at least funding to buy and install them in 2020!
You can admire older Christmas greetings at Museum Railroad Association photo gallery, which includes Museum Railways Christmas greetings from different years drawn by PTJ Koskinen.

The new Humppila station will be opened on coming Sunday the 9.6. 2019. At the same time it will be almost exactly 25 years since the first museum trains rolled in Humppila after the newly rebuilt Minkiö-Humppila line was opened for traffic on 5.6.1994.

On the 11 of December 2018 the station building was transported by a truck to Humppila from Riippa in Northern Finland. After that started a very laborious project to renovate the station. The first work was to remove all structures built in the building in the 1980s when it was used as a datacenter for train control.
After all dismantling work the building itself had to be lowered on its final position and some structural reparation had to be done to remove some rotten and water damage material. Only after that the renovation work in the station could be started.
The renovation work included for example: painting and reparation of all window frames and doors, repairing and painting the ceiling and the floor, new half wall wainscot paneles, new wall paper, new trims, new felt roof and new outside painting of the station house and much more than can be listed over here.
Now the work is starting to get ready and it is the time to take the station in use and celebrate the grand opening on the Sunday 9.6. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done before one can say the station is completely ready.

Last week a new station building for Humppila station was transported from Riippa in Norhern Finland. It is a type of building that was very common hundred years ago at smaller railway stations in Finland. Moving of the building took four full days.
The station building was loaded in Riippa on Tuesday 11.12. and after that it travelled more than 12 hours arriving at Humppila early on Wednesday morning at 3.05 AM.

The next day the original foundation stones transported to location were installed and the station lifted off the transportation flat. On Thursday the building was lifted on top of its foundation and the final adjustments were made on Friday.
The station building will be fully renovated during winter and spring 2019. The building will have a large waiting room and cafe space and station master's office.

Today will be 120 years of opening the Jokioinen railway to temporary traffic. Actual traffic had been already started as soon as rails reached Forssa and the Chief of Operations Mr H.Korkonen had been named in mid July 1898.

There was the following article published at Aamulehti newspaper on the 17th of December 1898:
Jokioinen-Forssa railway.
Under certain conditions, the Senate has approved the traffic regulations for the Jokioinen-Forssa railway. The railway can be opened for traffic, after the management board of the railway has publicly anounced it and made a announcement to the government transit board. The traffic rules and tariff will be the same as in the case of the State Railways. The maximum speed is 25 kilometers per hour.
